The border terrier is really a small, rough-coated breed of dog of the terrier group. Originally bred because fox and vermin hunters, Border Terriers discuss ancestry with Dandie Dinmont Terriers,  Patterdale terriers as well as Bedlington Terriers.
The breed is very much older, the Border Terrier was officially recognized by The Kennel Club in great britain in 1920, and because of the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1930.
