Standoffish by nature, a deerhound needs extensive exposure to people and to unusual sights and sounds. Otherwise the deerhounds natural caution can become shyness, which is difficult to live with.

Like most sighthounds, a deerhound is an independent thinker who don’t particularly care about pleasing you. Like most sighthounds, derhounds are independent thinkers who don’t particularly care about pleasing you. A deerhound can be stubborn and slow to obey. You must show them, patiently but persistently, that you mean what you say.
